This volume bridges the gap thatexists between ratherlimited provisions ofengi- neering codes/standards and complex numerical analyses/small-scale tests. While a number of the codes/standards and text books are mainly concerned with the effects of vibration on humans and structures very few of them deal with vibra- tion induced ground failures. Numerical analyses, even in elastic domain, require expert knowledge, which is available only within large/specialised companies and at universities.
